Create: Create an example of differentiated communication practices to post for students or parents and share on your blog.
Just as with classroom teachers, online instructors need to tailor their communication when relaying information to students and parents. While students are more likely to be able to navigate a new website or piece of technology, parents may need something more straightforward and to the point. A one-size-fits-all approach may not work for both parties involved. For example, if a teacher needs to communicate information to students, they may post a short video for students to watch or even link to a different website with additional information. However, as far as parents are concerned, they may simply send an email update or attach a document to a mass email. Understanding the differences involved when communicating with both parties is essential to a successful school year.
